Waste Coordinator

About the role

TotalEnergies EP Suriname is looking for a Waste Coordinator to support the anticipated growth in Development Drilling, Exploration Drilling and GranMorgu Project activities, now that an integrated waste management contractor has been appointed. The coordinator holds a global and detailed view of the waste management system and processes within the TEPSR perimeter, is based at the TEPSR Logistics Base in Paramaribo and is part of the TEPSR HSSE organization. The post is permanent and requires dedication of at least three years.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver the affiliate Waste Management Plan and act as subject matter expert on waste management and reporting.
• Ensure storage, transportation, recycling, recovery and end disposal of wastes meet company expectations, national legislation and industry best practice, with full cradle-to-grave management.
• Custodian of the Waste Management Plan: collate documentation, inspect, track and characterize wastes.
• Report waste streams monthly, quarterly and annually, and to third parties and national authorities.
• Implement company waste objectives, promote circular economy practices and ensure compliance with permits, the Environmental Framework Act of 2020, ESIAs, EMMPs, company standards and GIIP.
• Act as contract representative and main focal point for the waste management contract, deliver training to drilling, logistics, project and office users, and carry out periodic audits of contract users.
• Supervise waste transportation with a clear chain of custody, and ensure waste does not harm the host environment and communities.
• Support new waste approaches with the Environmental Manager's approval, respond to stakeholder enquiries and complaints, and support local content initiatives and the industry/government waste task force.
• Liaise with waste contractors on waste acceptance criteria, develop waste policies and procedures, coordinate waste activities, and build a waste tracking system with LOG and HSSE.
• Develop training programmes, mentorship and work packages, and foster a respectful, inclusive workplace.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental subjects or waste management, preferably in oil and gas, mining, industrial or infrastructure projects.
• Good understanding of hazardous and non-hazardous waste protocols and knowledge of environmental legislation and industry standards, including sea transport of dangerous goods.
• Experience managing waste contractors and environmental reporting.
• Fluent written and spoken Dutch and English.

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of handling, characterizing, packaging and transporting solid, liquid, hazardous, NORM and mixed wastes.
• Relevant certification such as CIWM, Basel, MARPOL, HAZMAT, DGR or ISO 14001.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and report writing skills.
• Dashboard development and Power BI expertise is an advantage.
