Assay Lab Intern

About the role

This internship supports the evaluation and validation of environmental analytical methods at Newmont Suriname’s Merian Project. You will work in a laboratory environment, applying chemistry knowledge to ensure methods meet ISO/IEC 17025 standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support determination of analytical method performance characteristics, including limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), accuracy, precision, recovery, linearity, and measurement uncertainty.
• Assist in collecting, organizing, and analyzing laboratory data.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and validation documentation.
• Prepare technical reports and summary presentations.
• Follow all laboratory safety protocols, environmental requirements, and Newmont standards.
• Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and risk assessments.
• Support environmental monitoring initiatives through reliable analytical testing practices.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related discipline at Anton De Kom Universiteit van Suriname.
• Foundational knowledge of chemistry, environmental science, or analytical science.
• Understanding of laboratory quality management principles and ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation requirements.
• Basic understanding of statistical analysis and data interpretation.

Required skills

• Knowledge of analytical laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, trending, and reporting.
• Basic statistical analysis skills.
• Technical report writing and documentation abilities.
• Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is advantageous.
