Junior Automation and Control Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Junior Automation and Control Specialist to support the maintenance and optimisation of automation equipment at Rosebel Gold Mines. Working under the supervision of the senior Automation and Controls Specialist, you will assist technicians and engineers to ensure reliable plant operations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot PLC networks, hardware, software, HMI systems and related control equipment.
• Configure, maintain and diagnose industrial communication networks (IP, fiber, copper, DeviceNet).
• Support PLC panel design, wiring layouts and hardware configuration.
• Back up, restore and support AVEVA System Platform and local HMI systems.
• Maintain fire and safety control systems, including the Fike server‑based fire system.
• Monitor instrumentation performance, identify issues and provide technical recommendations.
• Provide frontline support to A&I technicians, maintenance, production and engineering teams.
• Analyse real‑time and historical process data to resolve operational issues and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Control, Electrical, Electronic or Software Engineering.
• Minimum 1 year experience as an Automation Specialist in a mining environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Dutch; Mandarin is a plus.
• Willingness to work on a rotational schedule (14 days on, 7 days off) at Brokopondo.

Required skills

• PLC hardware knowledge and fault‑finding.
• PLC programming languages: Ladder, Function Block, Structured Text.
• ISA Alarm Management.
• Automation software: EcoStruxure, AVEVA System Platform (Wonderware Archestra), RSLogix5000.
• Hardware platforms: Rockwell PLC, Quantum Unity processors, ABB REF/RET/REM relays.
• Industrial communication protocols: IP, fiber, copper, DeviceNet.
• Fire and safety control systems (Fike server‑based).
• Diagnostic tools for instrumentation and automation performance.
