Asset Health & Condition Monitoring Intern

About the role

This internship supports early detection of equipment defects through condition monitoring at Newmont Suriname's Merian Project. You will work on critical fixed‑plant equipment, helping to maintain asset health and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct routine condition monitoring inspections on critical plant equipment.
• Collect, record, and validate data such as vibration, thermography, and lubrication conditions.
• Log identified defects in the work management system.
• Assist reliability engineers and planners in trend analysis and failure pattern identification.
• Track defects and support follow‑up actions for the defect elimination program.
• Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure safe execution of inspections.
• Participate in hazard identification and reporting during inspections.
• Document findings to support traceability and long‑term asset health tracking.

Required profile

• Final‑year student in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field.
• General understanding of digital transformation, data quality, and analytics concepts.
• Awareness of data governance, privacy, and responsible data practices.
• Basic knowledge of organizational dynamics and stakeholder management.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of mechanical systems and industrial equipment (pumps, conveyors, motors, gearboxes).
• Foundational knowledge of condition monitoring techniques: vibration analysis (basic level), infrared thermography (basic level), lubrication and tribology fundamentals.
• Ability to collect and record accurate data using Excel, inspection templates, and mobile tools.
