Senior Legal Counsel – Energy & Corporate Law

About the role

Join a leading global energy company as a Senior Legal Counsel, supporting the Head of Legal in delivering high‑quality legal services across Suriname operations. You will act as a trusted business partner, ensuring compliance, mitigating risk, and adding value to strategic projects.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head of Legal in reviewing contracts, agreements, and other legal documentation.
• Provide ad‑hoc legal advice to internal departments such as procurement, HSE, and business teams.
• Monitor changes in Surinamese legislation and keep internal legal tools up‑to‑date.
• Analyze and resolve complex legal issues with innovative thinking.
• Lead cross‑functional legal initiatives, share best practices, and coordinate training with external counsel.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders, group affiliates, and external regulatory bodies.
• Support data‑protection compliance in line with local and international requirements.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Law from Suriname (additional foreign qualifications a plus).
• 8+ years of experience in private practice or in‑house legal roles covering corporate and business law.
• Strong knowledge of Surinamese legal system, legislative process, and contract drafting.
• Excellent written and spoken English; strong command of Dutch.
• Proactive, independent, and able to work under tight deadlines.
• High professional ethics and collaborative mindset.
