Project Geologist (Exploration)

About the role

Newmont Suriname is seeking a Project Geologist to lead and execute exploration programs at the Merian Project in Suriname. The role involves field inspections, drill program management, data analysis and delivering technical recommendations to support safe and profitable production.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct in‑field inspections, incident investigations and ensure compliance with SOPs.
• Design and execute exploration programs, including drill core logging, contractor management and drill‑hole reporting.
• Monitor drill progress, perform QA/QC on survey data and assays, and take corrective actions when discrepancies arise.
• Support weekly to monthly planning and scheduling of exploration activities.
• Provide progress reports, KPI monitoring and recommendations for follow‑up work.
• Prepare work program proposals, summary reports and review partner timesheets.
• Mentor junior geologists and core‑shed technicians to maintain consistent practices.

Required profile

• Professional degree in Geological Sciences.
• Advanced understanding of ore‑deposit models, structural geology, geochemistry, geophysics and mineralization identification.
• Project management fundamentals in an exploration setting.
• Strong scientific report writing and communication skills.
• Knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements.

Required skills

• Proficiency with geological modeling and visualization software (Leapfrog, Deswik, Acquire).
• Exploration program design and execution.
• Geological, geochemical and geophysical data interpretation.
• Data analysis and insight development.
• QA/QC of databases, assays and drill data.
• Drill program management in collaboration with business partners.
