Senior Lead Counsel – Gas & Petroleum Contracts

About the role

This senior legal position is responsible for protecting the legal interests of a leading energy organization operating offshore in South America. You will advise senior management and the Offshore Group on Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs), Joint Operating Agreements (JOAs), and related legislation while leading and coaching the offshore legal team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coach the legal team that supports the Offshore Group.
• Draft, review, and negotiate PSCs and JOAs in line with applicable petroleum legislation and international best practices.
• Provide strategic legal advice to senior management and the Offshore Group on contractual and regulatory matters.
• Monitor contractual obligations, concessions, and compliance with petroleum and mining laws to safeguard the organization’s legal position.
• Identify potential disputes, track international developments affecting PSCs and JOAs, and maintain relationships with external legal counterparts.

Required profile

• University degree in Law or a comparable legal qualification.
• At least 15 years of experience as a senior or leading legal professional within a corporate environment.
• Proven experience in the oil & gas sector, specifically with PSCs and JOAs, and strong knowledge of international petroleum laws and regulations.
• Excellent strategic, communication, and collaboration skills, with experience in an international, multicultural setting.
• Fluent English proficiency.
