PEC Consultant – Research Department (RES) Macroeconomist

About the role

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is seeking a PEC Consultant to support its Research Department (RES) in delivering high‑quality macroeconomic analysis for Latin America and the Caribbean. Working under the guidance of RES economists, the consultant will help shape policy‑relevant research and flagship publications.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare talking points, briefing notes, and Q&A materials for senior management on current macroeconomic developments.
• Monitor macro‑economic, financial, fiscal, external and trade indicators and produce short analytical notes on emerging trends.
• Translate findings from the Annual Macroeconomic Report and other IDB publications into concise policy products for internal and external audiences.
• Contribute to the preparation of the Annual Macroeconomic Report and draft analytical sections for policy reports, speeches and presentations.
• Build, update and document macroeconomic databases and analytical tools, generating charts, tables and factsheets.
• Undertake research and analysis on macroeconomic and financial policy topics relevant to the region.
• Provide timely analytical, data and drafting inputs on short‑turnaround macroeconomic issues.

Required profile

• Ability to synthesize complex macroeconomic analysis into clear, concise messages for senior management and non‑technical audiences.
• Strong written communication skills in English and Spanish, with proven experience drafting policy briefs, talking points or briefing notes.
• Experience compiling, cleaning and managing macroeconomic data sets.
