Metallurgy Internship

About the role

This internship supports metallurgical improvement initiatives and operational excellence projects at Newmont Suriname's Merian Project. You will work on technical analysis, field sampling, reporting and process optimisation in a gold‑processing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with metallurgical accounting and monitor process performance.
• Support sampling campaigns, laboratory testing and operational data analysis.
• Help optimise reagents, control cyanide usage, monitor grinding performance and improve gold recovery.
• Participate in troubleshooting and continuous‑improvement projects within the process plant.
• Follow site safety standards, environmental requirements and operational procedures.
• Take part in workplace inspections, risk assessments and safe work practices during field activities.

Required profile

• Final‑year student in Mineral Geosciences, Chemistry or a related technical discipline.
• Basic understanding of digital transformation, data governance and organisational dynamics.
• Ability to work safely in a mineral processing plant, perform field inspections, collect samples (up to 15 kg) and gather operational data.
• Willingness to learn operational and reporting systems used in the plant.

Required skills

• Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Basic data analysis and reporting.
• Understanding of metallurgical sampling and process monitoring.
• Fundamental knowledge of mineral processing principles.
