Legal Counsel

About the role

Join a leading global energy company as a Legal Counsel, supporting a wide range of commercial and corporate matters across Suriname operations. You will act as a trusted business partner, ensuring legal compliance and adding value to strategic projects.

Key responsibilities

• Review and draft diverse legal documents and agreements, providing timely advice to contracts, procurement, business, HSE and other departments.
• Support negotiations, contract reviews and keep internal legal tools up‑to‑date.
• Monitor changes in Surinamese legislation and regulations, proposing necessary updates.
• Lead cross‑functional legal initiatives, share best practices and coordinate training with external counsel.
• Analyze complex legal issues with innovative solutions.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders, group affiliates, external counsel and regulatory bodies.
• Assist the Head of Legal in managing litigation, commercial disputes and data‑protection compliance.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in law obtained in Suriname (additional foreign qualifications a plus).
• 12+ years of experience in private practice or in‑house counsel within an international environment, covering commercial and corporate law.
• Strong knowledge of the Surinamese legal system, institutions and legislative process.
• Excellent written and spoken Dutch and English; French is a plus.
• Self‑starter with high work ethics, eager to learn and open to feedback.
