Intern, Mine Engineering

About the role

This internship provides a hands‑on introduction to mine engineering within Newmont Suriname’s Merian Project. You will develop foundational knowledge and practical skills while supporting real‑world haul road and stockpile design activities.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in haul road and stockpile design using relevant tools and engineering guidelines.
• Support short‑term mine planning tasks, including preparation and review of weekly and monthly plans.
• Monitor plan versus actual performance, highlight variances and help compile accurate documentation.
• Generate basic reports and visualisations to aid operational decision‑making.
• Apply safe design practices under supervision, considering operational and environmental factors.
• Help ensure compliance with mine design standards and safety requirements.
• Identify potential operational risks through plan analysis with guidance.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline (2nd year or higher).
• Strong academic performance in mathematics, engineering analysis and technical subjects.
• Exposure to mine planning, mine design, or related coursework is advantageous.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, tracking and reporting.
• Interest in or exposure to mine design and planning software.
• Ability to analyse and interpret operational data with attention to detail.
• Basic understanding of engineering drawings and layouts.
