Graduate Trainee – Rotational Development Program

About the role

Join Newmont’s two‑year rotational Graduate Trainee program at the Merian open‑pit gold mine in Suriname. You will support safe operational activities while gaining broad technical experience across mining, engineering and business improvement projects.

Key responsibilities

• Complete planned rotations within the assigned technical discipline to develop operational knowledge.
• Support operational, technical, engineering and business improvement initiatives.
• Collect, analyse and communicate technical and operational data.
• Participate in field activities to understand process workflows.
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, productivity, reliability, quality and cost performance.
• Prepare reports, presentations and project updates for stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Mining, Metallurgical, Chemical, Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, Geosciences or related field.
• 0‑2 years of professional experience in a technical, engineering or operational role.
• Foundational understanding of health and safety principles, hazard identification and risk management.
• Basic knowledge of business improvement principles.

Required skills

• Proficiency with discipline‑relevant software and data analysis tools.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Ability to collect, analyse and interpret technical and operational data.
• Experience preparing technical reports and presentations.
• Familiarity with standard operating procedures, safety rules and risk controls.
• Basic project and contract management capabilities.
