Geologist

About the role

Newmont Suriname is seeking a Geologist to lead and supervise exploration activities at the Merian Project in Sipaliwini. The role involves designing exploration programs, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with KPIs and contractual obligations.

Key responsibilities

• Design and supervise exploration work to meet project objectives and standards.
• Monitor exploration performance against KPIs and provide regular analysis.
• Supervise contractors and ensure compliance with contracts and exploration goals.
• Mentor junior geologists and deliver training.
• Develop, plan and schedule work activities ranging from three months to one year.
• Compile, assess and interpret analytical results and produce reports.
• Contribute to budgets, long‑term work programs and business plans.

Required profile

• Professional degree in Geological Science or a related field.
• Experience in exploration management, strategic planning and compliance.
• Familiarity with greenfield exploration in diverse geographic settings.
• Project management fundamentals and strong leadership and communication abilities.

Required skills

• Designing exploration programs and portfolio management.
• Analyzing complex geological data and deriving insights.
• Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Power‑BI and Tableau.
• Resource modelling and related software.
• Clear written and verbal communication, especially for non‑technical audiences.
