Communications Associate – Project Management Unit

About the role

The Communications Associate will support stakeholder engagement, knowledge sharing, visibility and public awareness for the Protection, Restoration, and Sustainable Use of Mangrove Forest (PRSUMF) project in Suriname. Reporting to the Project Manager and under the guidance of the Deputy Resident Representative, the role is office‑based within the UNDP Project Management Unit.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and periodically update the Project Communication and Visibility Plan, adapting to emerging needs and donor requirements.
• Develop a Media/Communication Action Plan and associated budget in collaboration with the Project Manager.
• Create graphic designs for audiovisual and print materials that align with UNDP and EU branding guidelines.
• Maintain and expand the network of project stakeholders and media contacts, providing timely information on project activities.
• Ensure correct use of UNDP and EU logos on all publications, events, and digital content.
• Update project information on the UNDP Suriname website and social media platforms (Facebook, X, etc.).
• Support organization and media coverage of project events.
• Advise project staff on awareness‑raising and stakeholder‑engagement strategies.
• Lead knowledge management by preparing articles, newsletters, and visual material for dissemination.
• Assist in designing behaviour‑change campaigns and training materials for local communities, women, youth and entrepreneurs.

Required profile

• Works under direct supervision of the Project Manager and collaborates closely with the Deputy Resident Representative and Technical Officer.
• Demonstrates ability to coordinate with multiple UNDP units and external partners.

Required skills

• Graphic design for print and audiovisual outputs.
• Social media management (website, Facebook, X, etc.).
• Media relations and press outreach.
• Video production, script writing and editing.
