Superintendent, Mechanical Plant Maintenance

About the role

The Superintendent of Mechanical Plant Maintenance will lead the reliability and upkeep of critical mining equipment at Newmont’s Merian operation in Suriname. This senior position ensures continuous, safe production by overseeing comprehensive maintenance strategies and managing a dedicated team of technicians.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, plan, and monitor maintenance schedules for crushers, conveyors, and SAG mills to minimise downtime.
• Collaborate with maintenance crews to execute preventive, predictive, and corrective activities.
• Analyse asset performance using KPIs and data analytics to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Implement strategies that extend equipment life, reduce costs, and enhance reliability.
• Ensure all maintenance work complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Identify and mitigate risks associated with fixed plant assets.
• Manage the fixed‑plant maintenance budget, conduct financial reviews, and control costs.
• Lead risk assessments and implement reduction measures for plant safety and operational capability.
• Coordinate with contractors to meet project specifications, safety standards, and contractual obligations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial plant maintenance, preferably in mining or heavy industry.
• Proven leadership and communication abilities.
• Fluent English (written and spoken); Dutch language skills are a plus.

Required skills

• Maintenance and reliability of crushers, conveyors, and SAG mills.
• Preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programmes.
• Equipment troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Use of CMMS platforms such as SAP PM, Maximo or similar.
• Data‑driven asset performance analysis using KPIs.
