Junior Structural Biologist Intern – Part‑time for Students

About the role

Join MSD as a part‑time Junior Structural Biologist intern, working on de novo design pipelines to create new proteins and peptide molecules. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and contribute to software solutions that impact disease research and treatment development.

Key responsibilities

• Apply de novo design pipelines to generate new proteins or peptide molecules.
• Collaborate with software engineers, machine‑learning experts, bioinformaticians and cheminformaticians.
• Participate in regular meetings with scientific colleagues abroad to discuss progress and next steps.
• Provide feedback to improve and develop software solutions for real‑world scientific challenges.

Required profile

• Current student (bachelor, master or doctorate) at a Czech university.
• Interest in applying de novo design methods to proteins and peptides.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and proactive, independent approach.

Required skills

• Familiarity with protein/peptide biology, sequence and structure.
• Hands‑on experience with structure prediction tools such as AlphaFold or Boltz.
• Experience with structure visualization software (PyMOL, MOE, Mol*).
• Command‑line and UNIX system usage.
• Bioinformatics tools (BLAST, foldseek) – optional.
• Molecular dynamics tools (Gromacs) – optional.
• Programming in Python – optional.
