Drill and Blast Engineer

About the role

Newmont is seeking a Drill and Blast Engineer to support weekly mine scheduling and drill‑and‑blast work packages at the Merian open‑pit gold mine in Suriname. The role will ensure alignment with the site’s business plan, drive continuous improvement, and maintain high safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain weekly and rolling 3‑month drill and blast schedules.
• Design blast patterns, tie‑ups and manage blasted muck inventory.
• Align wall‑control blast designs with long‑term pit wall geometry.
• Reconcile planned production with actual output and report daily drill‑blast performance.
• Conduct fragmentation analysis, vibration monitoring and KPI analysis to drive improvements.

Required profile

• B.S. degree in Engineering with 0‑2 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to visualize and communicate mine designs using specialized software.
• Proficiency in English; additional languages (Spanish, Dutch) are a plus.
• Strong aptitude for spreadsheet applications and data management.
