Communications Associate – Project Management Unit

About the role

The Communications Associate will support stakeholder engagement, knowledge sharing, visibility and public awareness for the Protection, Restoration, and Sustainable Use of Mangrove Forest (PRSUMF) project in Suriname. Working under the Project Manager and the Deputy Resident Representative, the role focuses on designing and implementing targeted public‑relations and media activities.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and update the Project Communication and Visibility Plan, including media action plans and budgeting.
• Develop graphic designs, audiovisual and print materials in line with UNDP and EU communication guidelines.
• Maintain relationships with media, ensure correct use of project logos, and promote visibility through events and publications.
• Update project information on UNDP Suriname website and social media platforms (Facebook, X, etc.).
• Support organization of project events and facilitate media coverage.
• Lead knowledge management by preparing articles, newsletters, human‑interest stories and maintaining a repository of communication products.
• Assist in designing behaviour‑change and awareness campaigns for local communities, women, youth and entrepreneurs.
• Produce video records of project activities, including script writing, editing and formatting for multiple media channels.

Required profile

• Experience in communications, public relations or media within development projects.
• Ability to work under the supervision of the Project Manager and collaborate closely with project team members and UNDP units.
• Strong stakeholder‑engagement skills and familiarity with gender‑responsive communication approaches.
