Field Technician – Tailings Storage Facility

About the role

We are looking for a motivated, safety‑focused Field Technician to support the Infrastructure Department in the construction and monitoring of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF). The role involves delivering accurate survey measurements, field staking, and construction guidance to ensure works meet design specifications, operational priorities, and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct daily field surveys for TSF construction, measuring dam raises, berms, slopes, crest and toe levels, drainage works, earthwork quantities and progress.
• Perform survey set‑out and construction control, installing and maintaining pegs, stakes, reference points and benchmarks.
• Execute as‑built surveys and provide precise coordinates, elevations and quantity data to Survey, Construction and Engineering teams.
• Support QA/QC activities with consultants, verifying layer thickness, elevations, slopes and compliance with approved drawings.
• Collaborate with consultants, supervisors and Tailings Engineers during inspections, audits and verification activities.
• Identify and report deviations or unsafe conditions, assisting in corrective actions.
• Assist TSF monitoring by locating instrumentation points, monuments, piezometers and settlement markers and maintaining field records.
• Maintain survey equipment, tools and assigned vehicles in safe, serviceable condition.

Required profile

• Technical Higher Secondary Education or NATIN Diploma in Mining, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Infrastructure or related field.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in the mining industry.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Willingness to work on a rotational schedule (14 days on, 7 days off) in Brokopondo.
• Good communication skills in Dutch and English.
• Ability to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Excel.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Experience using Global Mapper.
